Artist Statement and Biography Katy English divides her time between Cushendun, a small village on the North East coast of Ireland and London. Her work consistently refers to the Antrim landscape that she loves, using drawing to investigate the natural world both seen and unseen. In an age where images can be instantly captured and transmitted she uses drawing to slow down the act of seeing to allow the covert forces of growth and mathematics to reveal themselves. After completing her B.A in sculpture at Camberwell School of Art (1984) Katy English continued to work in South London, exhibiting regularly in group and solo shows and working to private commission. In 1995 she co founded Makendoo, a children’s art workshop company offering children the opportunity to be creative outside of traditional arts environments. www.makendoo.com. Katy continues to run Makendoo but is also focusing more on her own practice Katy is closely involved in ‘The Cushendun Old Church Project’ ‘Cushendun’s Big Arts Weekend’, two projects which aim to improve access to arts and heritage in the Glens of Antrim. www.theoldchurchcentre.com Since 1998 Katy English has exhibited and sold mainly from her studio, regularly taking part in the annual ‘Dulwich Artists Open House’.
